Developers of the Debian-based SparkyLinux operating system released today three special editions of the recently announced SparkyLinux 5.5 "Nibiru" series.
Initially launched this summer on July 27, 2018, the SparkyLinux 5.5 "Nibiru" Rolling operating system series brought all the latest updates and security fixes from the Debian Testing repositories a.k.a. Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster," and was available as MinimalGUI (Openbox), MinimalCLI, and LXQt editions.
New ISOs were made available last week with even more recent updates from the Debian Testing repositories, and today the special editions were released too as SparkyLinux 5.5 GameOver, SparkyLinux 5.5 Multimedia, and SparkyLinux 5.5 Rescue, synced with the Debian Buster repositories as of September 24, 2018.
What's new in SparkyLinux 5.5 GameOver, Multimedia, and Rescue
Powered by the Linux 4.18.6 kernel (Linux 4.18.9 and 4.19 RC5 kernels also available in the unstable repos), the SparkyLinux 5.5 GameOver, Multimedia, and Rescue editions come with the Calamares 3.2.1 graphical installer, the rxvt-unicode terminal emulator instead of XTerm, and the Seahorse encryption keys and passwords manager.
Furthermore, the Thunar daemon has been deactivated in the live session due to a problem of automatic mounting of new partitions created by the Calamares installer, which now removes the cryptsetup packages if the operating system is not installed on an encrypted partition or disk drive.
Targeted at gamers, the SparkyLinux 5.5 GameOver edition comes pre-installed with numerous games, as well as useful scripts and scripts. On the other hand, the SparkyLinux 5.5 Multimedia edition features numerous pre-installed tools for creating and editing audio, video, graphics, and HTML pages.
Lastly, the SparkyLinux 5.5 Rescue edition includes multiple tools for scanning and fixing broken files, system partitions, as well as operating systems installed on disk drives.
